Guwahati: Under the dynamic leadership of the Dr. Ranbir Singh, IAS (Retd.),Chairman, Brahmaputra Board, the North Eastern Hydraulic and Allied Research Institute (NEHARI) in collaboration with National Water Academy (NWA) and North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM) conducted a five-day training workshop on – “DPR Preparation for Irrigation and Multipurpose Projects” during (06th–10th October, 2025)
The program was inaugurated by G. L. Bansal, Chief Engineer, BBO, CWC, Adabari, who emphasized the critical importance of preparing comprehensive Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for irrigation and multipurpose projects. He underlined the need for sustainable practices in achieving efficient water resource management and highlighted the importance of continuous capacity building among officials to ensure effective and measurable outcomes.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of several distinguished officials, including Dhruba Jyoti Roy Chodhury, Chief Engineer (Major), Irrigation Deparment, Assam, Dr. Pradip Kr. Bora, Director, NERIALM, Ankit Dudeja, Director, NWA and Dr. Chandam Victoria Devi,Assistant Professor, NERIALM and Dr. Ranjit Deka, Director, NEHARI, Brahmaputra Board.
The workshop featured a series of comprehensive lectures and hands-on sessions covering various aspects of DPR preparation for Irrigation and Multipurpose projects. Topics included Overview of guidelines for the preparation of DPRs for Irrigation & Multipurpose Projects , Introduction to Remote Sensing; Working with GIS and retrieval of Data available in public Domain; Catchment Delineation & Development of Maps, Reconnaissance survey, Feasibility Study of Irrigation & Multipurpose Projects, Irrigation Planning analysis and use of CROPWAT, BC ratio and assessing Techno-Economical Feasibility of the project, Hydrological Studies-Design Flood Studies Cost estimation of Irrigation and Multipurpose works, Compilation of various chapters of DPR & other Statutory Formalities that form part of DPR, Project Appraisal Management System (e-PAMS Portal),
Participants engaged in practical training sessions on Demonstration and Hands on session on working with GIS applications, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.
Expert sessions were delivered by renowned professionals including Sh. Rakesh Raghuwanshi, Asstt.Director, NWA, Sh. C. Saket, Executive Engineer, CWC Silchar, Dr. Sanayanbi Hodam, Assistant Professor (WRE), NERIWALM, Shri. Raghavendra Adepu, Deputy Director, CWC(HQ) Sh. Puneet, Asstt. Director, CA Directorate, CWC (HQ) Sh. Manpal Singh, Asstt. Director, M&A, CWC Guwahati, Shri Ankit Dudeja, Director, NWA, Pune.
The program concluded with a valedictory session chaired by Shri G. L. Bansal, Chief Engineer, BBO, CWC, Adabari, and attended virtually by D.S. Chaskar, Chief Engineer, NWA, Pune, and Dr. Ranjit Deka, Director of NEHARI, Dr. Basanta Kr. Deka, Chief Engineer, Brahmaputra Board, and Dr. Chandam Victoria Devi, Asstt. Professor, NERIALM. The valedictory session summarized the key highlights and outcomes of the five-day program. A total of 30 participants from the Irrigation Department, Government of Assam, and the Brahmaputra Board successfully completed the training and were awarded certificates of participation.
