A newborn baby was found abandoned in a forested area at Udaygiri Path in Devkota Nagar under Maligaon in Guwahati on Sunday, police said.
According to reports, local residents noticed the baby hanging from a tree and alerted others. The newborn was found alive and safely rescued by the residents.
Police were informed and reached the spot following the rescue. The baby was taken to safety, while officials launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The identity of the person or persons who allegedly abandoned the newborn has not yet been established. Police are also investigating when and how the baby was left at the location.
