NFR Achieves Major Infrastructure Milestones in 2025

Guwahati: As part of Indian Railways’ sustained drive to eliminate manned level crossing gates, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded significant infrastructure achievements in 2025, marking a major boost to safety, mobility and rail–road integration across the zone. The continuous and priority-based construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) has played a vital role in ensuring uninterrupted train operations, reducing road congestion and waiting time, and minimising the risk of rail–road accidents.

During the year, NFR successfully completed 16 Road Over Bridges and 22 Road Under Bridges across the states under its jurisdiction. These projects were undertaken across all five divisions of NFR at strategically important locations, including Panbazar, Chaparmukh, Kampur, Katihar and Mancotta. Several additional RUB works are currently in progress, while new projects are being taken up to address increasing traffic volumes and safety requirements.

A landmark achievement of 2025 was the completion of the Panbazar ROB in Guwahati, constructed at a cost of Rs. 47 crore. The 290-metre-long structure, featuring 1.5-metre-wide footpaths on both sides and advanced engineering elements such as a 60-metre Bow String Girder with composite girders, has significantly eased traffic congestion along the busy Panbazar–Paltan Bazar corridor. Another major milestone was the completion of the Raha–Chaparmukh ROB, built at a cost of Rs. 84.6 crore with a total length of 1,179 metres, providing a crucial connectivity link towards West Karbi Anglong.

In addition, the completion of 22 RUBs during the year has further enhanced safety, reduced traffic bottlenecks and enabled smoother movement of passengers and freight. Through these sustained efforts, Northeast Frontier Railway continues to advance its commitment to safer, efficient and future-ready rail infrastructure, contributing meaningfully to the region’s socio-economic development.
