NFR Achieves Major Milestones in Connectivity and Modernization in FY 2025–26

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recorded significant achievements in the financial year 2025–26, strengthening connectivity, modernization, and regional development across the Northeast. As part of its expansion, NFR introduced 20 pairs of new train services, including premium and semi-premium categories, improving links within the region and with the rest of the country. Operational efficiency also saw a boost, with the speed of 35 trains increased, saving a total of 675 minutes in travel time.

A major milestone was the completion of 100% electrification, contributing to sustainable operations and enhanced line capacity. The commissioning of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line marked a historic moment for Mizoram, with passenger trains witnessing overwhelming demand and high occupancy rates. Freight services also expanded, boosting regional trade through key developments in Nagaland and Meghalaya.

In terms of modernization, NFR introduced the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express and expanded services with Amrit Bharat and LHB coaches. Infrastructure projects like the Murkongselek–Sille section are set to improve connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, several stations are being redeveloped with modern amenities. Haibargaon station in Assam has emerged as a model, while Kamakhyaguri station in West Bengal has already been upgraded. Additionally, NFR enhanced healthcare and educational facilities for employees, reflecting its commitment to inclusive and holistic growth across the region.
