Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a significant technological breakthrough with the successful commissioning of a modern Electronic Interlocking (EI) system at Dumdangi (DMZ) in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal under the Katihar Division. The state-of-the-art Siemens MK-II EI replaces the earlier Panel Interlocking system, greatly enhancing safety, reliability and operational efficiency in train movement across the region.
The upgraded system introduces a range of advanced features, including independent and dummy shunt signals, strengthened level crossing infrastructure and enhanced digital monitoring. The EI setup covers 45 routes, 33 track circuits, 9 main signals, 8 independent shunt signals, 2 dummy shunt signals, 16 points, 2 vital FNmux units and 2 non-vital mux units for auto section display. In addition, manually lifted barriers at LC Gates NC-26, NC-29 and NC-31 have been replaced with electrically operated barriers, significantly raising safety standards.
