NFR Electrifies Kamakhya Pit Lines for Next-Gen Trains

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully completed the electrification of both pit lines at Kamakhya Junction, marking a major boost to the station’s operational and maintenance capabilities. The upgrade is seen as a key step in preparing the facility for the efficient servicing of upcoming Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat trains.

As part of the expanded maintenance infrastructure, NFR has constructed eight new pedestals to support Pantograph (Panto) and Roof Mounted Package Unit (RMPU) servicing—critical for the upkeep of next-generation train sets. These additions are expected to enable safer, smoother, and more efficient maintenance of advanced rolling stock.

NFR has also completed extensive staff training programmes, equipping maintenance teams with hands-on expertise in electrified pit line operations, Panto and RMPU servicing, and updated safety protocols. The training ensures teams are fully prepared to meet the specialised technical demands of modern trains.

These developments underscore NFR’s commitment to modernising railway infrastructure and enhancing service reliability across the region. The upgrades also align with Indian Railways’ Net-Zero 2030 mission, moving the network closer to carbon neutrality while paving the way for high-speed, sustainable passenger services in the Northeast.
