NFR Introduces 20 New Train Pairs to Boost Connectivity in NE

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced 20 pairs of new train services during the financial year 2025–26, marking a major step towards enhancing passenger connectivity, comfort, and operational efficiency across the region. The expansion includes a mix of premium, semi-premium, and conventional trains, aimed at strengthening links within the Northeast and connecting it more effectively with other parts of the country. Officials said the initiative reflects NFR’s commitment to improving accessibility and overall travel experience.

A key highlight is the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between Kamakhya and Howrah, offering high-speed overnight travel with modern amenities. Additionally, seven pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains have been introduced to provide affordable long-distance travel, connecting destinations such as Nagercoil, Tiruchchirappalli, Gomti Nagar, Rohtak, Bengaluru, Panvel, and Charlapalli.

Another major addition is the Rajdhani Express service linking Sairang in Mizoram with Delhi, significantly improving connectivity to the national capital. Other services include the Humsafar Express between Jalpaiguri Road and Sealdah, along with regional trains such as Sairang–Guwahati, Silchar–Sairang, NJP–Guwahati, and Agartala–Narangi routes, enhancing intra-zone connectivity. Railway officials stated that the new services, operating at varied frequencies, are expected to strengthen regional integration, boost tourism, and support socio-economic development in the Northeast, in line with the broader vision of Indian Railways.
