Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has registered significant progress in railway infrastructure development and safety enhancement during the ongoing financial year 2025–26, reaffirming its commitment to safe, reliable and passenger-friendly rail services across the Northeast. According to NFR officials, focused initiatives undertaken by the Engineering Department have resulted in marked improvements in track safety, passenger amenities and operational efficiency. Passenger safety remained a top priority, with the commissioning of nine Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and completion of eight Road Under Bridges (RUBs), surpassing achievements during the corresponding period of the previous year. In addition, 21 manned level crossings were eliminated, reducing accident-prone locations across the network.
Bridge infrastructure was also strengthened, with 12 bridges rehabilitated through registering and 77 bridges provided with inspection pathways to ensure safer maintenance and long-term asset reliability. Track renewal works showed substantial progress, including rail renewal over 337.4 km and sleeper renewal across 329 km. Ballast renewal of 7.649 lakh cubic metres was completed, while 16 permanent speed restrictions were removed to improve punctuality and train movement.

Passenger amenities saw notable upgrades with the opening of 13 Foot Over Bridges, three high-level platforms and platform-raising works at seven stations. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, works at Haibargaon station were completed. Mechanised track maintenance achieved a landmark milestone, recording the highest-ever monthly progress in December 2025. Revenue earnings of Rs 43 crore were also generated through efficient land utilisation. NFR said these achievements reflect its sustained focus on safety, modernisation and improved passenger experience across the region.
