NFR Sets New Benchmarks in Workshop Modernisation at NBQ

New Bongaigaon: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded significant infrastructure and operational achievements at the New Bongaigaon (NBQ) Workshop during December 2025, reaffirming its focus on modernization, efficiency and excellence in rolling stock maintenance in line with Indian Railways’ reform initiatives. Adding to these accomplishments, the C&W Workshop, New Bongaigaon, was awarded the Ministry of Railways’ Rajbhasha Shield along with a cash prize of Rs. 14,000 by the Railway Board for outstanding implementation of Rajbhasha during 2024, bringing recognition and pride to NFR.

During the month, NBQ Workshop developed an indigenous test bench for assembled DEMU DPC bogies, enabling pre-installation testing of traction motors and early detection of defects. The system features mandatory one-hour run tests, real-time monitoring of vibration and bearing temperatures, and accurate backlash measurement using high-precision dial gauges, resulting in considerable savings in time and manpower.

The workshop also successfully initiated Mid-Life Rehabilitation (MLR) of LHB coaches after receiving a Rolling Stock Programme for 25 coaches. Interim arrangements were efficiently created by utilizing the old Coach Lifting Shop, following the relocation of ICF POH activities to the new Light Coach Repair Shop, ensuring smooth commencement of MLR work.
