Guwahati, Feb 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 2 asserted that there is no difference between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), underlining that both allies remain firmly united within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the upcoming elections.
Speaking to the media at a programme in Dimoria, Sarma dismissed any speculation of discord between the two parties, stating that their shared objective is to form the next NDA government in Assam. He said that regardless of whether the BJP or AGP secures more seats, the Chief Minister will continue to be from the BJP, leaving no room for future conflict. According to him, the alliance is stable and focused on collective success rather than internal competition.
Expressing confidence about the electoral prospects in Dimoria, the Chief Minister said the NDA is poised for a comfortable victory in the constituency. He credited the anticipated win to the strong support the alliance continues to receive from the people of the region, remarking that the public sentiment in Dimoria remains firmly in favour of the NDA.
On seat-sharing arrangements, Sarma said discussions with AGP leaders are ongoing. He confirmed that he has recently held talks with senior AGP leaders Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta and assured that the seat allocation will be finalised and announced soon. His remarks reiterated the BJP–AGP alliance’s resolve to contest the elections together and return to power in Assam under the NDA banner.
