North East Open Karate-Do Championship Begins in Tezpur

Tezpur: The North East Open Karate-Do Championship commenced in Tezpur on Saturday morning with the participation of a large number of contestants from 19 districts of the State. The championship is being held at Hem Barua Bhawan under the aegis of the Chitru Karate-Do Khei Khan Federation, India. More than a hundred participants from different parts of the State are competing in the event, which features both individual and team categories in kata and kumite disciplines. The competition is being conducted across eight categories for boys and girls aged five years and above.

          The event began with the hoisting of the organisation’s flag, followed by a tribute to noted artiste Zubeen Garg. The championship was formally inaugurated by noted actor Prithiraj Rabha and retired professor Purneswar Nath. On the occasion, several individuals associated with different fields in Tezpur were felicitated by the organising committee.

          Speaking about the arrangements, organisers Akul Nath and Utpal Nath said that adequate facilities have been made for the accommodation of players and judges arriving from various parts of the State. They also expressed satisfaction over the enthusiastic response from spectators, adding that martial arts as a sport is increasingly attracting the younger generation as well as their parents. The championship will conclude on Sunday.
