Northeast Transgender Person, Manipur Friend Allegedly Attacked Near Saket Court in Delhi

New Delhi, March 10: Two individuals from India’s Northeast, including a transgender person from Assam and another person from Manipur, were allegedly attacked by a group of individuals near the Saket Court Complex in the national capital, raising fresh concerns about the safety of people from the region living in Delhi.

According to the victim’s sister, the incident took place when the transgender woman from Assam had gone for a walk in a nearby park with a friend. During the walk, a group of children playing in the park allegedly passed remarks at them. When the victims objected to the comments, the situation reportedly escalated.

The victim’s sister alleged that the group became aggressive and began making further objectionable remarks. When her sister again protested against the comments, they allegedly attacked her. She said the confrontation quickly turned violent despite the victims attempting to defend themselves.

During the altercation, one of the attackers allegedly used a knife while another assaulted the victim with a belt. Despite the attack, the woman reportedly tried to escape by running from the spot. Her sister also claimed that several people were present in the park at the time but no one came forward to help.

Following the incident, the victim said she wants justice and action against those responsible for the assault. The case has once again drawn attention to concerns about the safety of people from the Northeast as well as transgender individuals living in the national capital. Police are expected to investigate the matter and identify those involved in the alleged attack.
