NSCN (KYA) Cadre Arrested in Joint Assam Rifles–Police Operation

Charaideo : In a joint operation, the Assam Rifles and Assam Police on Saturday arrested an active cadre of the banned NSCN (KYA) outfit from the Namtola area, officials said. According to security sources, specific intelligence inputs were received around 5 pm about the movement of an NSCN (KYA) cadre in the general area of Namtola. Acting swiftly on the information, a joint team of the 23 Assam Rifles and Assam Police launched a coordinated operation at about 5.30 pm.

During the operation, the security forces apprehended Wangmei Konyak, a key NSCN (KYA) cadre, who is a prime accused in the killing of Muslek Ali, a resident of Namtola, on November 25, 2024. His arrest is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in the case. The arrested militant has been identified as Wangmei Konyak, son of Changlang Konyak, hailing from Changlangshu village under the Namsa police outpost in Mon district of Nagaland.

During a search, security personnel recovered a .32 pistol, one magazine, six live rounds of ammunition, along with tax collection receipts, indicating his alleged involvement in extortion-related activities. Officials said the arrested cadre has been taken into custody and further interrogation is underway to ascertain his role in other criminal cases and to identify possible links with other members of the banned outfit. Security forces have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and curbing insurgent activities in the region.
