Kokrajhar: In a significant step towards improving rural healthcare, NTPC Bongaigaon has partnered with the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) to launch a comprehensive cancer screening project in Kokrajhar district. The initiative, focused on early detection and timely treatment, aims to benefit thousands of residents across remote villages of Assam.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed on Saturday, marking the second year of collaboration between the two organisations since the project’s inception in 2024-25. Backed by ₹33 lakh in funding, the programme targets around 81,000 beneficiaries, operating through four Block Primary Health Centres (BPHCs) and nearly 80 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) to ensure last-mile healthcare access.
The initiative prioritises early detection of oral, breast, and cervical cancers, complemented by awareness and sensitisation drives to educate local communities on prevention and timely screening. It also incorporates home-based palliative care services for patients requiring continuous support, ensuring healthcare delivery with compassion and dignity.
Speaking on the occasion, Arnab Maitra, Head of Projects at NTPC Bongaigaon, commended the ACCF for its impactful role in promoting cancer prevention and treatment across Assam. He emphasised that the collaboration would “enhance access to quality healthcare, raise awareness, and empower communities at the grassroots level.”
The year-long project will follow a phased approach, linking diagnosed patients to government health schemes for cashless or reimbursable treatment, thereby easing the financial strain on affected families. By extending government healthcare programmes into underserved areas, the initiative also aims to strengthen Assam’s public health infrastructure.
The Assam Cancer Care Foundation, a joint initiative between the Government of Assam and Tata Trusts, continues to lead the development of a three-tier cancer care grid in the state — setting new benchmarks in early detection, treatment, and patient-centric care.
Through this partnership, NTPC Bongaigaon and ACCF reaffirm their shared mission of delivering hope, care, and access to thousands, ensuring that no one in Assam is left behind in the fight against cancer.
