Tamarhat: In the conference hall of the Public Library at Gauripur town in Dhubri district, the newly formed East Dhubri District and West Dhubri District Committees under the undivided Goalpara Koch Rajbangshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) today took an oath to work for the confidentiality of the organization and the all round development of the community.
The oath taking ceremony, held under the chairmanship of Monindra Nath Roy, Vice President of the Koch Rajbangshi Sahitya Sabha, was administered by Ratul Roy, President of the undivided Goalpara AKRSU. He led the newly formed office bearers and members of the East and West Dhubri District Committees in taking the oath.
In his address, Dr. Dwijendra Nath Bhakat, President of the Koch Rajbanshi Sahitya Sabha, stated that the Koch Rajbangshi community, one of Assam’s indigenous groups, has been striving for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status since 1968 through its oldest national organization, the All Assam Koch Rajbangshi Sanmilani. Later, the All Koch Rajbangshi Students’ Union (formed in 1990) continued this movement for ST status and the reconstruction of a separate Kamatapur state.

However, neither ST status nor the formation of Kamatapur has been achieved till date. Therefore, he emphasized that all national organizations of the Koch Rajbangshi community must unite and intensify the movement for these demands. In addition, several dignitaries delivered important speeches on the issues of granting ST status and forming the Kamatapur state. They included Dulal Chandra Roy, General Secretary of the Koch Rajbangshi Sangram Samiti; noted physician Dr. Manik Chandra Baruah; former AKRSU worker Dilip Kumar Roy; President of the Dhubri District Goriya Moriya Deshi Jatiya Parishad, Afzalur Rahman; social worker Suchibrata Singha Choudhury; and President of the Tamarhat Press Club, Lalit Chandra Roy.
The event was also attended by Sujit Roy, Joint Secretary of the undivided Goalpara AKRSU, various AKRSU workers, and prominent individuals of the community. It may be mentioned that the undivided Goalpara West Dhubri District Committee was formed with Damodar Roy as President and Prasenjit Roy and Rupu Roy as Joint Secretaries. Similarly, the East Dhubri District Committee was formed with Debashish Singha as President and Hiramba Roy and Dhananjay Roy as Joint Secretaries.
