Assam Rising, Duliajan, Assam, Aug. 18: Three electric vehicles developed by Hopun Innovations Private Limited, a startup supported by Oil India Limited (OIL), have been deployed at Duliajan for field trials, marking an effort to test indigenous electric mobility technology in oilfield operations.
The vehicles were showcased during IIT Kharagpur’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on August 16, where the MC² Foundation launched an Energy Innovation Hackathon focused on energy-sector innovation and entrepreneurship. The vehicles were inaugurated virtually by MC² Foundation CEO Sandeep Maheshwari in the presence of IIT Kharagpur’s Prof Manoj Kumar Mondal.
Hopun Innovations, incubated at IIT Bhubaneswar, has developed 13 electric vehicles. The three deployed at Duliajan will be tested in real operating conditions to assess their suitability for oilfield and other field operations.
The vehicles were formally flagged off at Duliajan by OIL Resident Chief Executive Binayananda Bharali.
The initiative brings together a startup, academic institutions and a traditional energy company to explore cleaner mobility solutions suited to India’s industrial requirements. For OIL, the trials also offer an opportunity to assess how indigenous technology could support cleaner alternatives in routine operations.
The Duliajan deployment provides Hopun Innovations with a real-world testing ground and could offer insights into the practical use of electric vehicles in demanding industrial environments.
