Duliajan, May 28: As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, OIL Sakshyam organised an Assistive Device Distribution Ceremony for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) on May 25 at Sonari Natya Samaj Hall in Charaideo district, Assam.
The programme was held under the Community Based Rehabilitation initiative of Project OIL Sakshyam with the aim of promoting accessibility, mobility support, rehabilitation and inclusive participation for persons with disabilities in the district. Officials and representatives from OIL, the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), the Social Welfare Department, local administration and civil society organisations attended the ceremony.
During the event, 62 beneficiaries out of 120 identified PwDs received assistive devices and rehabilitation support materials, while the remaining 58 beneficiaries are expected to receive the devices in the coming months.
The distributed items included wheelchairs for children and elderly persons with locomotor disabilities, smart canes for visually impaired individuals, Behind-the-Ear hearing aids, teaching and learning materials for children with intellectual disabilities, folding chairs with commode support for children with spasticity and multiple disabilities, and auxiliary crutches for those with mobility impairments.
Dignitaries present at the programme highlighted the importance of community-based rehabilitation and inclusive development in ensuring dignity, accessibility and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. The initiative was described as a reflection of OIL’s continued commitment to social responsibility and the empowerment of marginalised communities through sustainable interventions.
