OpenAI to Offer One-Year Free Access to ChatGPT Go in India Starting November 4

Bengaluru: OpenAI has announced that it will make its subscription service ChatGPT Go free for one year to users in India who sign up during a limited-time promotional window beginning November 4, coinciding with the company’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru.

Launched in India in August, ChatGPT Go provides users with enhanced features, including higher message limits, image generation, and file uploads. The initiative comes in response to soaring demand, with OpenAI reporting that paid ChatGPT subscriptions in India more than doubled in the first month after launch.

“Since initially launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve seen from our users has been inspiring,” said Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT. “Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI.”

India has become ChatGPT’s second-largest and one of its fastest-growing markets, according to OpenAI. The company said the move underscores its ‘India-first’ approach and aligns with the government’s IndiaAI Mission, which aims to strengthen the country’s artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will also receive 12 months of free access, ensuring they benefit from the offer without interruption.

OpenAI noted that millions of Indians use ChatGPT daily, including developers, students, and professionals who rely on it for learning, productivity, and creative tasks.

ChatGPT Go has now been expanded to nearly 90 markets worldwide, with India’s robust response positioning the country as a key driver of OpenAI’s global AI adoption strategy.
