“Through the initiative of Raijor Dal, 16 opposition parties met today and framed the roadmap ahead,” Gogoi told reporters after the meeting. The opposition bloc passed multiple resolutions, demanding a high-level inquiry into Zubeen Garg’s death under the direct supervision of the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. The parties also resolved to remain united “until the hidden truths behind Zubeen’s death are revealed.” A formal memorandum outlining their demands will soon be submitted to the Chief Justice.
The leaders also called upon Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to convene an all-party meeting and make public all findings of the ongoing investigation. They demanded the release of protesters arrested during demonstrations seeking justice for the late singer.

In a significant political move, the alliance urged the government to press the Centre not to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019, recalling Zubeen’s outspoken opposition to the law. The parties further sought an ED probe into alleged financial irregularities related to the Northeast India Festival.
The joint forum also proposed including a special chapter on Zubeen Garg’s life and contributions in Assam’s school curriculum for Classes IX and X and called for the case to be tried in a fast-track court. A statewide tribute has been planned on October 19, marking one month since Zubeen’s passing.

Zubeen Garg, who died in Singapore on September 19, was more than just a celebrated singer—he was a voice of conscience and cultural pride for Assam. His sudden and unexplained death has not only shaken the state’s artistic community but has also united political parties across ideological divides in a common demand for truth and justice.
Observers believe this newfound opposition solidarity could mark a defining moment in Assam’s political history, one driven by emotion, accountability, and the enduring legacy of Zubeen Garg.
