Udalguri-Sonitpur, May 2: The Orang-based Orang Rajohua Namghar and Sankari Kala-Krishthi Kendra, established in 1976 and inspired by the teachings of Srimanta Sankardeva and Madhavdeva, is set to mark its Golden Jubilee with a two-day celebration on May 7 and 8. The event will be held at Punaram Deka Samannay Kshetra, with extensive preparations underway.
The first day of the programme will begin with a Bhagawat procession, followed by the hoisting of the religious and Golden Jubilee flags. The schedule includes a tribute ceremony, Bhagawat recitation and Naam-Prasanga by invited groups. The main gate and Punaram Deka Kshetra will be inaugurated at noon, followed by a Naam competition. In the evening, local artists will present Borgeet and Sattriya dance performances, while devotees will light 50 earthen lamps to commemorate the occasion. The day will conclude with a ‘Nagara Naam’ performance led by Moromi Saikia’s group.
On May 8, the celebrations will continue with a cultural procession in the morning, followed by a religious discussion session chaired by celebration committee president Uddhav Chandra Deka. The session, focusing on the importance of spirituality in social development, will be inaugurated by Dr Sukdev Adhikari of Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, with Jogen Chandra Kalita as the main speaker. Several dignitaries, including Assam minister Chandan Boro and Member of Parliament Dilip Saikia, are expected to attend.
A souvenir will be released in the afternoon, followed by cultural programmes in the evening. Women members of the Namghar will stage a drama, while the Nupur Nrityangana group from Tezpur, under the guidance of Ruby Bora Bordoloi, will present a Sattriya dance titled “Guru Bandana.” The Bhaona stage will also be inaugurated, with artists from Tezpur Yuva Samaj performing “Daksha Yajna.”
The celebrations have seen strong community participation, particularly from women contributors who supported the preparations and contributed Rs 50,000 towards the souvenir. The organising committee has invited the public to attend the event and extend cooperation for the successful celebration of the Golden Jubilee.
