Over 200 Soap Cases of Heroin Seized in Manipur, Two Arrested in Joint Anti-Drug Operation

Imphal, March 29: A joint team of Manipur Police, security forces and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) carried out a major anti-narcotics operation on March 28 in Manipur, recovering 207 soap cases of heroin and arresting two individuals in Churachandpur district.

The operation was conducted at Ngathal ground, where officials intercepted two vehicles — a DI Tata and a Scorpio. The drivers, identified as Paumuanlian Tungnung (23) of Vaal Veng village and Lianminthang Neihsial (26) of Nazareth village in Saikot, were taken into custody after the contraband was discovered during a search.

Authorities said the seizure underscores intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking, particularly in sensitive border regions of the state.

In a parallel development, a training session on the investigation of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was held the same day at the Tengnoupal district Police Headquarters. Legal officials, including the Public Prosecutor (NDPS), Additional Public Prosecutor (NDPS), and Deputy Director of Prosecution (POCSO), briefed investigating officers on improving coordination between police and prosecution to ensure stronger case outcomes.
