Over 72,000 Farmers in Udalguri Benefit from PM-KISAN 23rd Instalment

Udalguri-Sonitpur, June 22: More than 72,000 farmers in Assam’s Udalguri district received financial assistance under the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, which was released nationwide by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism on Sunday.

To mark the occasion, a district-level programme featuring a live telecast of the Prime Minister’s address was organised at Lalpul in Udalguri. The event was jointly hosted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Udalguri, functioning under Assam Agricultural University, and the District Agriculture Department.

Farmers from different parts of the district, representatives of Farmer Producer Organisations and Farmer Producer Companies, as well as Village Council Development Committee chairpersons, participated in the programme. Officials highlighted the significance of the PM-KISAN scheme in improving the economic condition of farmers and ensuring timely financial support for agricultural activities.

The event was attended by Udalguri’s Guardian Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Additional Commissioner (Agriculture) Laxmi Kutum, District Agriculture Officer Manoj Narzary, District Veterinary Officer Dr Rupam Boro and officials from various agriculture and allied departments.

An awareness and training session on organic pest management was also organised during the programme to promote sustainable agricultural practices. Farmers were provided with quality seeds to help improve crop production and productivity in the district.

Officials stated that similar live webcast programmes were held simultaneously in agricultural sub-divisions, 14 agricultural circles and five agricultural development blocks across the district under the CSS-ATMA initiative, ensuring wider participation among farmers.

According to official data, a total of 72,250 farmers in Udalguri district benefited from the 23rd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, underlining the government’s continued emphasis on farmer welfare and rural development.
