The only Bailey bridge over the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district has reportedly suffered major damage after repeated movement of overloaded trucks, prompting authorities to temporarily restrict traffic over the crucial structure.
The bridge at Krowti in Kibithoo Circle connects remote border villages, including Kaho, and serves as a vital link for residents in the strategically important region. Repeated movement of vehicles carrying loads beyond the bridge’s prescribed capacity has reportedly weakened the structure and raised safety concerns.
Movement across the bridge has been restricted until further notice. Local MLA and Women & Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul urged vehicle owners, drivers and commuters to follow the prescribed load limits and cooperate with the administration.
Authorities have been directed to inspect the bridge and undertake necessary repairs and restoration work. Commuters have been advised to exercise caution, follow the traffic advisory and use alternative routes where available.
