Owaisi to Campaign in Assam in April as AIUDF Steps Up Poll Outreach

Guwahati, March 27: All India United Democratic Front president Badruddin Ajmal on March 27 announced that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi will visit Assam in early April, marking a key development in the party’s campaign strategy ahead of the Assembly elections.

Ajmal said the visit was finalised following a meeting in Delhi between his son, Abdul Rahman Ajmal, and Owaisi. He added that the two sides have agreed to organise at least eight programmes during the visit as part of an expanded outreach effort.

Owaisi had earlier confirmed his party’s support for the AIUDF, stating that the decision followed a request from Ajmal. He noted that Abdul Rahman Ajmal had met him at his residence in Delhi and that he had also held a conversation with Badruddin Ajmal regarding the campaign.

According to the plan, Owaisi will travel to Guwahati for a two-day visit and is expected to address multiple public meetings in support of AIUDF candidates. The move is being viewed as part of a broader strategy to consolidate minority votes in key constituencies.

The development comes amid AIMIM’s parallel political outreach in West Bengal, where the party has extended support to regional leaders, signalling an attempt to strengthen its presence in eastern India. Owaisi said the initiative aims to promote emerging minority leadership and is not limited to the current election cycle.

Political observers indicate that such engagements in Assam and West Bengal could influence electoral dynamics, particularly in constituencies with significant minority populations.

Assam will go to polls in a single phase on April 9 for its 126-member Assembly, while West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and April 29. Counting of votes will be held on May 4, as scheduled by the Election Commission of India.
