Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt Mesmerises Audience at RGU SMVA Series

Guwahati: The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) concluded the four-day SPIC MACAY Virasat Anubhav (SMVA) Series 2026 with a captivating performance by Padma Bhushan awardee and Grammy-winning musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the creator of the Mohan Veena. Held from March 10 to 13, the cultural immersion programme aimed to introduce young learners to the richness of Indian classical arts. A total of 93 students participated in various technical workshops during the event.

The concluding evening witnessed Bhatt enthralling the audience with his extraordinary slide guitar performance, providing a grand finale to the celebration of India’s musical heritage. Earlier cultural evenings featured a powerful mime performance by Moinul Haque, a mesmerizing Kathak recital by Rajendra Gangani, and a soulful Hindustani classical vocal concert by Sunanda Sharma. The “Anubhav” segment of the programme included interactive workshops where students learned directly from the maestros. Haque conducted a mime workshop highlighting the expressive power of silent performance, during which participants created a thematic piece titled “Man Dies When Trees Disappear” to emphasize environmental conservation.

Students also attended an Indian classical vocal workshop by Sunanda Sharma, introducing them to the fundamentals of the Banaras Gharana, and a Kathak workshop by Rajendra Gangani, a noted exponent of the Jaipur Gharana. Organisers said the programme successfully bridged modern education with India’s timeless artistic traditions while inspiring students to appreciate and preserve the country’s rich cultural heritage.
