Preliminary investigations revealed that the seized wildlife product was being transported from Chennai and was intended for further delivery to Myanmar, highlighting the involvement of an organised international smuggling network.
The Forest Department has taken custody of the seized pangolin scales and the apprehended individuals for further legal action under relevant provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
Officials described the seizure as one of the largest in recent times, dealing a significant blow to illegal wildlife trade networks operating across India’s northeastern corridor.
