Pherzawl Administration Launches Awareness Drive for Census 2027 and New Rural Employment Scheme

Itanagar, Feb 28: The District Administration of Pherzawl has rolled out an extensive public awareness campaign to prepare residents for Census 2027, described by officials as India’s most technologically advanced population survey to date. Conducted under the aegis of the Government of Manipur, the programme was held at Parbung Village on Friday and continued at the Pherzawl DC Office Complex on Saturday, where participants were briefed on key timelines, procedures and the digital framework of the upcoming exercise.

According to the administration, houselisting operations will take place from April 16 to May 15, 2026. Citizens will also be able to opt for self-enumeration through a dedicated mobile application between April 1 and April 15, 2026. Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching, IAS, described the 16th Indian Census (2027) as a landmark, fully digital, two-phase enumeration process. She noted that the survey will incorporate caste-based data collection and capture more than 34 updated indicators, including information on internet access, smartphone ownership and other socio-economic parameters that reflect evolving household realities. Officials said the shift to digital data collection is intended to enhance accuracy, transparency and efficiency, and urged residents to actively participate in the self-enumeration process while extending full cooperation to enumerators during houselisting.

Alongside the census awareness drive, the district administration also conducted an outreach session on the “Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act.” Officials stated that the scheme replaces the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and provides a guarantee of 125 days of wage employment annually to every rural household.

To ensure wider understanding, informational calendars and placards translated into Hmar were distributed among attendees. The programme concluded with a call for collective participation as Pherzawl gears up for the national census exercise and the rollout of the new rural employment framework.
