Assam Irrigation Minister Pijush Hazarika on June 20 inspected key irrigation projects in Kamrup district, including the Singua Flow Irrigation Scheme (FIS) Cluster under the Modernisation of Command Area Development (MCAD) Pilot Project and the Solar Powered Mobile Lift Irrigation Scheme at Boko-Chaygaon.
During the visit, the minister carried out a detailed review of the ongoing works and held discussions with engineers, architects, technical experts and project consultants. Officials briefed him on the design, implementation process and expected benefits of the schemes aimed at improving irrigation facilities and enhancing agricultural productivity.
Hazarika examined the progress of the Singua FIS Cluster, which is being implemented under the Government of India’s MCAD Programme to improve water-use efficiency and modernise irrigation management. The project is expected to expand irrigation coverage and support a large number of farmers in the region.
He also reviewed the Solar Powered Mobile Lift Irrigation Scheme, which uses mobile solar-powered floating pump stations to provide irrigation facilities in remote and flood-prone areas while reducing operational costs.
During the inspection, the minister interacted with farmers and local residents to understand their irrigation needs and gather feedback on agricultural development.
Stressing the importance of quality execution and timely completion, Hazarika instructed officials to ensure that the projects are completed within the stipulated timeframe so that farmers can derive benefits at the earliest.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening irrigation infrastructure, he said innovative and sustainable solutions are essential to supporting the farming sector.
Boko MLA Raju Sahu, senior Irrigation Department officials, technical experts, project consultants and local representatives were also present during the inspection.
