Guwahati: Assam minister Pijush Hazarika, on October 12, has expressed his deep admiration for the singer Zubeen Garg, recalling personal memories of growing up listening to his music.
In an emotional statement on social media, “I am a fan of Zubeen. I personally purchased his cassettes like Anamika and Maya from the store. Listening to his songs, we have spent our youth. Even today, we are devotees of Zubeen,” he said, adding that he shares a close personal bond with the Garg family.
Reaffirming his commitment to ensuring justice for the iconic artiste, the minister stated that the investigation into Zubeen Garg’s untimely death is moving ahead under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. “We also wish for justice for our beloved artiste Zubeen, and I can assert that under the leadership of our Chief Minister, the investigation is proceeding swiftly,” he said.
However, the minister strongly condemned certain forms of public protest, particularly those involving symbolic acts such as tearing garments before cameras. “I strongly oppose anyone publicly tearing their garments as a form of protest and condemn such acts in the strongest terms. This goes against our traditional values,” he remarked.
He appealed to the people of Assam to maintain dignity while demanding justice, stating that Zubeen Garg’s vision was of a united, harmonious society. “Zubeen envisioned a society where everyone lives together harmoniously. Therefore, I urge that no one engage in acts like tearing garments or sending negative messages to society,” the minister concluded.
