Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone and inaugurated a series of development projects worth around ₹40,000 crore in Purnea, Bihar. The initiatives, covering railways, airports, electricity, and water supply, aim to accelerate growth and fulfill the aspirations of the Seemanchal region.
Highlighting the government’s focus on connectivity, the Prime Minister flagged off one Vande Bharat Express, two Amrit Bharat Express trains, and one passenger service. He inaugurated the Araria–Galgalia (Thakurganj) rail line, built at a cost of over ₹4,410 crore, which will directly connect Araria and Kishanganj districts, improving accessibility in Northeastern Bihar. He also laid the foundation stone for the Vikramshila–Kataria rail line.

The Vande Bharat Express between Jogbani and Danapur will benefit several districts including Araria, Purnea, Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Begusarai, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, and Patna. Two new Amrit Bharat Express services—Saharsa to Chheharta (Amritsar) and Jogbani to Erode—were also launched, offering faster travel, modern interiors, and improved facilities to strengthen economic, cultural, and social integration across regions.

The event was attended by Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Union Ministers including Rammohan Naidu, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Giriraj Singh, Chirag Paswan, Nityanand Rai, and others.
