News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for the complete dismantling of the ecosystem that supports terrorism, including terror financing, recruitment, radicalisation and safe havens, while addressing the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In a strong message delivered in the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other SCO leaders, Modi said there could be no “double standards” in the global fight against terrorism. He stressed that terrorism remains a grave challenge to humanity and said countries must move beyond an “action-reaction” approach. Modi said the international community must adopt a united approach against terrorism and target the entire support structure that enables terrorist activities.

“Countries that use terrorism as an instrument of policy, and that provide shelter and support to terrorists,” must receive a clear message that terrorism cannot be a strategic asset for anyone, he said. The Prime Minister identified peace and security as the first pillar of India’s vision for the SCO, alongside connectivity and opportunity. He emphasised that regional stability and economic development are closely linked to a secure environment.
Modi’s remarks assumed particular significance as Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was present at the summit. India has consistently raised concerns over cross-border terrorism and has called for stronger international action against countries and entities supporting terrorist networks. The Prime Minister’s address also highlighted the need for collective action among SCO members to counter terrorism and ensure that terrorist organisations do not receive financial, logistical or political support. The 26th SCO Summit brought together leaders of member states to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, connectivity and other issues affecting the wider region.
