PM Modi Highlights India–EU FTA as Key to Growth Ahead of Budget Session

GUWAHATI, Jan 29: Ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the media, emphasising the significance of the recently concluded India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) for the nation’s economy and global positioning. Modi described the agreement as a reflection of an “ambitious and aspirational India,” highlighting its potential to boost economic growth, international trade, and opportunities for Indian youth and manufacturers.

The Prime Minister urged Indian industries to leverage the FTA to expand production, enhance competitiveness, and access new international markets, enabling domestic manufacturers to strengthen their global presence. He stressed that the agreement aligns with the government’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and long-term development goals.

Referring to President Draupadi Murmu’s recent address to the joint sitting of Parliament, Modi said it captured the aspirations of 140 crore citizens and underscored India’s progress and potential. “The address was inspiring and highlighted India’s remarkable development journey in recent times,” he remarked, noting the momentum in the current quarter as evidence of India’s growing international relevance and economic optimism.

Modi further stated, “The India–EU Free Trade Agreement is for an ambitious India, for aspirational youth, and for Aatmanirbhar Bharat. It reflects how bright the future directions are,” signalling the government’s focus on proactive global engagement and strategic economic partnerships.

The FTA, according to the Prime Minister, is expected to serve as a catalyst for integrating Indian industries into global value chains, boosting employment, and strengthening India’s position in international trade. Modi’s remarks underscore the importance of the agreement as a driver of economic growth and a platform for India’s manufacturing sector to capitalise on global opportunities.
