Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage with 25 meritorious students from Assam on December 21 as part of the ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ programme, with the interaction set to take place aboard a cruise on the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati. The distinctive river-based venue marks a significant departure from the conventional settings of the Prime Minister’s annual pre-examination dialogue with students, adding a symbolic and regional touch to the nationwide initiative.
After the student interaction, Modi will visit the Swahid Smarak Kshetra at Paschim Boragaon in Guwahati to pay homage to the martyrs of the Assam Movement. He is scheduled to later travel to Namrup in Dibrugarh district, where he will lay the foundation stone for a fertiliser plant with a capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes. The proposed facility is aimed at strengthening fertiliser production in the region and supporting agricultural growth in Assam and neighbouring states.
The Prime Minister’s engagements on December 21 follow a day after he inaugurated the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati on December 20. During the event, Modi also unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi, Assam’s first chief minister, installed at the entrance of the terminal complex.
Speaking at the airport inauguration, Modi described the occasion as a celebration of development and progress for Assam and the wider North Eastern region. He said the state and the region are increasingly emerging as a gateway to India’s development, reflecting sustained investments in infrastructure and connectivity.
The Prime Minister remarked that when the benefits of progress reach people, new opportunities open up across all aspects of life. Referring to his personal connection with the state, he said the affection shown by the people of Assam, particularly women, continues to inspire him and reinforces the collective commitment to regional development.
Highlighting the importance of infrastructure, Modi said modern airports and advanced connectivity serve as gateways to fresh possibilities for any state. He added that the visible expansion of highways and airport facilities in Assam has strengthened public belief that long-awaited justice and development for the state have finally begun.
