PM Modi Visits Orchidarium in Gangtok, Highlights Sikkim’s Floral Diversity and Eco-Tourism Potential

Gangtok, April 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 28 visited the Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park Orchidarium as part of his two-day trip to Sikkim, underscoring the state’s rich ecological diversity and floral heritage.

He was accompanied by Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang during the visit. The orchidarium, developed as an Orchid Experience Centre, has been designed to showcase Sikkim’s indigenous orchid species while promoting conservation awareness and eco-tourism.

Officials said the facility highlights the region’s unique biodiversity and serves as a platform to educate visitors about the importance of preserving native flora. The initiative is also aimed at boosting tourism by leveraging the state’s natural assets.

Earlier, the Prime Minister interacted with Padma awardees and distinguished individuals in Gangtok, describing the exchange as an opportunity to engage with achievers from diverse fields and discuss a wide range of issues.

The visit forms part of broader efforts to spotlight regional cultural and ecological strengths while fostering engagement with stakeholders across the country.
