PM to Inaugurate, Launch Development Projects Worth ₹47,800 Crore in Assam

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on March 13 and 14 to inaugurate, dedicate and lay foundation stones for multiple development projects worth more than ₹47,800 crore across Kokrajhar, Guwahati and Silchar. According to official sources, the Prime Minister will begin his visit on March 13 at around 1:30 PM in Kokrajhar, where he will perform Bhoomi Poojan and lay foundation stones and flag off projects worth over ₹4,570 crore. Later in the evening at around 5 PM, he will attend another programme in Guwahati to inaugurate and dedicate development projects worth nearly ₹19,680 crore.

On March 14, the Prime Minister will travel to Silchar where he will perform Bhoomi Poojan and dedicate projects worth about ₹23,550 crore to the nation. During his Kokrajhar programme, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of a Periodic Overhauling (POH) Workshop at Bashbari. The facility is expected to strengthen railway maintenance infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and create employment opportunities in the region.

He will also flag off three new train services — the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express connecting the North-East with southern India, the Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express improving connectivity with West Bengal, and the Narangi–Agartala Express linking Assam with Tripura.

In Guwahati, the Prime Minister will dedicate several major railway electrification projects to the nation, including the Rangiya–Murkongselek rail line (558 km), the Chaparmukh–Dibrugarh rail line (571 km), and the Badarpur–Silchar and Badarpur–Churaibari rail sections. These projects are expected to enable faster, energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable train operations while strengthening connectivity across the Brahmaputra and Barak Valley regions. He will also lay the foundation stone for the Furkating–Tinsukia rail line doubling project, a 194-km project costing over ₹3,600 crore, aimed at enhancing line capacity and facilitating the movement of additional passenger and freight trains.
