Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam’s Morigaon district has reopened for the 2026-27 tourism season, offering jeep and elephant safaris after the forest department completed preparations for visitors.
Forest Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah inaugurated the season in the presence of forest department officials, police personnel and local residents. The sanctuary authorities repaired internal roads and pathways ahead of the reopening, while arranging 30 jeeps for safari operations.
Spread across about 38 square kilometres, Pobitora is known for its population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. The sanctuary is home to 106 rhinos and also supports wild buffaloes, wild boars and several bird species.
Pobitora attracted more than 42,000 domestic tourists and 763 foreign visitors during the previous tourism season. The reopening marks the start of another season for visitors seeking to explore its wildlife through guided safari services.
