Heroin Seized on Shillong-Silchar Route; Two Arrested

Meghalaya’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) intercepted a major drug consignment on the Shillong-Silchar highway, seizing over 54 grams of heroin hidden inside soap cases and arresting two suspects from Assam.

The operation was carried out at Sohryngkham in East Khasi Hills after ANTF personnel set up a checkpoint based on intelligence inputs. During the inspection of a vehicle traveling along the route, officers recovered four soap boxes containing 54.13 grams of heroin.

Both arrested individuals are residents of Silchar. Police stated that concealing drugs inside everyday items like soap cases is a common tactic adopted by traffickers to avoid detection during routine checks.

The seized contraband and the accused were handed over to the officer-in-charge of Sohryngkham Outpost for further legal procedures. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway to identify the broader network involved in the trafficking.

The Shillong-Silchar corridor has recently emerged as a significant transit route for narcotics, prompting heightened surveillance by law enforcement agencies. The ANTF has intensified efforts to curb the movement of drugs in the region.
