Police Attacked by Mob in Musalmanpara Village; Two Arrested

Tamarhat: Tension prevailed at Musalmanpara village under Tamarhat Police Station in Dhubri district after an angry mob allegedly attacked a police patrol vehicle late on Wednesday night and forcibly pulled an accused person out of police custody. According to reports, a man identified as Apu Sheikh, a resident of Musalmanpara village, was allegedly caught red-handed while being involved in an immoral act with a woman from the same village. Instead of informing the police, some villagers convened a village arbitration meeting (shalishi baithak) at the residence of one Abbas Hussain to discuss the matter.

Sources said that more than 500 people gathered at the meeting, creating a highly tense and chaotic situation. On receiving information, a police team led by ASI Krishna Kamal Nath of Tamarhat Police Station rushed to the spot, rescued the accused from the mob, and placed him inside a police vehicle to take him to the police station.

However, the situation soon turned violent as some unruly youths blocked the police vehicle, assaulted police constable Rakibul Islam, and forcibly dragged the accused Apo Sheikh out of the vehicle. Following this, a larger police force led by Officer-in-Charge Ratul Das reached the village, brought the situation under control, and safely took the accused to the police station.

In the early hours of Thursday, police detained Sahidur Rahman and Abul Kalam Azad for their alleged involvement in attacking the police. Both were taken to the police station for further legal action. Police have launched a search operation to identify and apprehend others involved in the incident. An investigation is underway, and authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those who attacked law enforcement personnel and disrupted public order.
