Police seized counterfeit currency notes face value of Rs 1.64 lakh during an operation in the Mandia area of Barpeta district and detained one person in connection with the suspected circulation of fake notes.
The detained person was identified as Kalim Uddin. Police suspect that the seized currency could be linked to a wider network involved in the circulation and distribution of counterfeit notes.
Following the seizure, investigators questioned Uddin to ascertain the source of the fake currency, its intended destination and how it was allegedly being circulated. Police were also probing the possible involvement of other persons in the suspected racket.
The seized notes were taken into custody as part of the investigation. Police have not disclosed the denominations of the notes or the exact circumstances of the operation.
The investigation was ongoing, with further action expected based on the findings.
