Post-Release Edits Made to Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ After Box Office Success, Film Declared Tax-Free in Ladakh

Entertainment, Jan 2: Certain dialogues in the blockbuster Hindi film Dhurandhar are now being screened with select words muted following post-release modifications initiated by the filmmakers. Officials clarified that the changes were not ordered by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and that the decision was taken independently by Aditya Dhar Films, the production house behind the movie.

According to officials, the producers approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking approval to mute specific terms, including “Baloch” and “intelligence”, after objections were raised by some communities who found the words offensive. The CBFC cleared the edits under Rule 31 of the Cinematograph Act, which allows alterations to an already certified film provided the essence and meaning of the scenes remain intact.

The spy action thriller, headlined by Ranveer Singh, has emerged as one of Hindi cinema’s biggest commercial successes, earning over ₹700 crore at the domestic box office and crossing the ₹1,000 crore mark worldwide. Released on December 5, Dhurandhar is set against the backdrop of Pakistan’s Lyari neighbourhood and follows the story of an Indian intelligence operative who infiltrates a criminal syndicate engaged in illegal arms trafficking.

The film received another boost on Friday when it was declared tax-free in Ladakh. Announcing the decision on social media platform X, the office of Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta said the movie was extensively shot in the region and showcased Ladakh’s cinematic appeal, with the potential to draw both filmmakers and tourists.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar features an ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and R Madhavan. Riding on the success of the first instalment, the makers have confirmed that the second part of the franchise is slated for release in March this year.
