Agartala, Feb 23: Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, founder of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), has strongly condemned the alleged racial abuse faced by three women from Northeast India in Delhi, asserting that their patriotism should be honoured, not mocked.
In a social media post, Debbarma highlighted the contribution of people from Arunachal Pradesh to national security, stating that their patriotism ensures that not a single Chinese soldier can enter the country. He said subjecting citizens from the Northeast to racism and ridicule not only causes personal hurt but also undermines the country’s broader values. He added that he would ensure the women receive due justice.
Following the incident, a case was registered at Malviya Nagar Police Station in South Delhi against two local residents accused of racially abusing and criminally intimidating the women, who were tenants in the area. According to police, the FIR includes provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), invoking Section 79 for words or acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty, Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation, Section 196 for promoting enmity between groups based on race or origin, and Section 3(5) for acts committed by multiple persons with common intent.
The accused have been identified as Harsh Singh and his wife Ruby Jain, residents of Malviya Nagar. The confrontation reportedly took place around 3:30 pm on February 20 when the women were supervising electrical work in their flat. Dust from drilling allegedly fell into the apartment below, leading Singh and Jain to go upstairs and confront them. The tenants later reported experiencing mental harassment and humiliation, though no physical injuries were recorded.
Police officials have stated that further legal action will be taken as necessary as the investigation progresses.
