Pradyot Debbarma Urges Peaceful Polls, Asks Voters to Report Bribery Ahead of TTAADC Elections

Agartala, April 6: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on April 6 appealed to voters to refrain from violence during the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council and urged them to expose any instances of bribery or voter intimidation.

Polling for the 28-member council is scheduled for April 12.

In a video message, the Tipra Motha Party founder said he had received reports of violence in certain areas and warned that such incidents could damage the image of the Tiprasa community. He stressed that while only a small section of political workers may be involved in such acts, the consequences are borne by the entire community.

Debbarma noted that both perpetrators and victims of election-related violence often belong to the same community, which further aggravates its social impact.

Calling for restraint, he urged people not to take the law into their own hands. Instead, he advised voters to document and report any wrongdoing. “If anyone is distributing money, do not react violently. Record it, share it, and inform the police,” he said, emphasising accountability over confrontation.

He added that while elections are temporary, the effects of violence can have long-term consequences, warning that such actions divide society, strain relationships and harm the reputation of the state.
