AGARTALA, Sept 20: Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore has resumed his social media commentary, criticising what he described as a tendency among a section of politicians in Tripura to prioritise proximity to power over ideological convictions.
In a live social media commentary, Kishore said some politicians preferred to remain on the “right side of power” rather than follow their stated political ideology and principles. He suggested that such politicians could switch sides when circumstances changed to protect their political interests.
Without naming any individual, Kishore said those currently raising “Jai Sriram” slogans in Tripura could raise the “red salute” slogan in Delhi if there was a change of power after the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He attributed such behaviour to the pursuit of power and financial interests and said such politicians were common in Tripura.
Kishore said all political parties had a tendency to push rivals aside and seek political advantage at the cost of policy, principles and ideology. However, he said such tendencies were relatively less pronounced in the CPI(M), which he described as an organised party with a defined ideology, policies and principles.
He contrasted this with the BJP and Congress, saying “power play” had an important role in both parties.
Kishore also criticised his own Tipra Motha, saying similar tendencies existed at the lower levels of the party. He said such power-driven competition was relatively limited at the top because of his presence but existed within the party at the lower level.
His remarks have triggered reactions among politicians in non-left parties, while his supporters attributed the comments to his frustration with Tripura’s political environment and what they described as a lack of principles and commitment to public welfare among BJP and Congress politicians.
