Pramod Boro Files Tamulpur Nomination, Rules Out Withdrawal and Alliance Commitments

Guwahati, March 20: Pramod Boro on March 20 filed his nomination papers from the 43rd Tamulpur Assembly constituency, formally entering the contest for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections 2026.

The United People’s Party Liberal candidate submitted his papers at the Tamulpur District Commissioner’s office, accompanied by his wife Parul Bharali, Minister UG Brahma, MLA Jolen Daimari, MCL(A) Wilson Hasda and other party leaders.

Addressing reporters after filing his nomination, Boro asserted that the party’s decision to contest the election was final, ruling out any possibility of withdrawal. He emphasised that the UPPL was not entering the electoral fray with hostility towards any political party or individual, stating that there was no personal enmity with Hagrama Mohilary. He also noted that he had sought blessings from Bishwajit Daimari earlier in the day.

Outlining the party’s strategy, Boro said the UPPL would contest 15 constituencies within the Bodoland Territorial Region and five seats outside it. He expressed confidence in securing between 10 and 12 seats in the elections.

On the question of alliances, Boro clarified that no commitments had been made with any party. Taking a veiled swipe at the ruling coalition, he remarked that the NDA has found “a new love,” adding that his party has no intention of interfering.

The developments signal the UPPL’s independent stance as political activity intensifies ahead of the April 9 polls.
