Imphal, Feb 8: Security forces in Manipur have intensified intelligence-driven combing, cordon and search operations across the state as part of a sustained effort to curb extortion and other unlawful activities, officials said.
In one such operation, an active extortionist allegedly linked to the banned outfit PREPAK (Pro) was arrested on February 7, 2026. The accused has been identified as Sagolsem Joychandra Singh, also known as Bungcha, a 47-year-old resident of Kakwa Makha Nameirakpam Leikai.
He was apprehended from the Kongba Nandeibam Leikai area under the jurisdiction of Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district. During the arrest, security personnel recovered a mobile phone, a wallet containing Rs 40 in cash, and an Aadhaar card from his possession.
Officials said the arrest was part of ongoing intelligence-based operations aimed at dismantling extortion networks and tracking individuals associated with proscribed organisations. They added that similar combing and search operations are being carried out extensively across sensitive areas of the state to prevent criminal activities and maintain law and order in Manipur.
