President Confers Shaurya Chakra on Assam’s Major Bhargav Kalita and Dhruva Jyoti Dutta

Guwahati, June 9: Assam has brought laurels to the nation with two of its sons, Major Bhargav Kalita and Dhruva Jyoti Dutta, being conferred the prestigious Shaurya Chakra by Droupadi Murmu in recognition of their extraordinary courage and service.

Major Bhargav Kalita was honoured for displaying exceptional bravery and tactical acumen during a counter-terrorism operation. His actions were recognised as an example of courage and professionalism under challenging operational conditions.

Dhruva Jyoti Dutta received the gallantry award for his remarkable act of bravery during an ambush in Manipur. Despite sustaining a gunshot wound, he successfully helped save the lives of eight fellow soldiers, demonstrating exceptional determination and selflessness in the face of grave danger.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the two awardees and praised their valour, dedication and service to the nation. He described their achievements as a matter of immense pride for Assam and the country.

The conferment of the Shaurya Chakra on the two personnel underscores the courage, commitment and sacrifice displayed by members of the armed forces while carrying out their duties in some of the most demanding circumstances. Their achievements have been widely hailed as an inspiration and a testament to the contribution of Assam’s sons in safeguarding the nation.
