President Droupadi Murmu Begins Two-Day Visit to Manipur, Launches Key Projects and Attends Cultural Events

President Droupadi Murmu touched down at Imphal International Airport shortly after 1 pm on Thursday, commencing a two-day tour of Manipur focused on cultural engagements, tributes to historical movements and the inauguration of major development projects. She was welcomed by senior officials of the state government before departing for her first public event.

Immediately after her arrival, the President visited the iconic Mapal Kangjeibung to witness a polo exhibition match, highlighting Manipur’s long-standing association with the sport and its cultural heritage. The event marked the opening of a series of programmes scheduled during her visit.

Later in the evening, President Murmu will attend a civic reception hosted by the Manipur government at the City Convention Centre in Imphal. During the function, she is expected to inaugurate several developmental initiatives and lay the foundation stones for new projects, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and accelerating growth in the Northeast.

On Friday, the President will pay homage at the Nupee Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal, honouring the Manipuri women who led two historic uprisings against British colonial authorities. Her visit coincides with the state’s annual observance of Nupi Lal Day, a commemoration deeply rooted in Manipur’s collective memory.

Following the ceremony, she will proceed to Senapati district, where she is scheduled to address a public gathering. The President will also launch and dedicate projects aimed at enhancing development efforts in the hill district.

President Murmu’s visit underscores the Union Government’s continued engagement in Manipur at a time when sustained efforts are underway to promote stability, development and recognition of the state’s cultural and historical significance.
