Princess Diana’s Iconic ‘Revenge Dress’ Immortalised in New Wax Figure at Paris’ Grevin Museum

Paris’ renowned Grevin Wax Museum has unveiled a striking new figure of Princess Diana, recreating her memorable 1994 “revenge dress” look — a symbolic fashion moment closely linked to a defining chapter in her life.

The life-size statue captures the late Princess of Wales in the black, off-the-shoulder cocktail dress she famously wore to a Serpentine Gallery event on the same evening that Prince Charles publicly acknowledged his extramarital relationship. The dress later became synonymous with Diana’s quiet yet powerful statement of independence.

According to the museum, the decision to create the new figure was inspired by the Grevin director’s visit to Madame Tussauds in London, where he reportedly felt their representation of Diana lacked impact. The Paris installation aims to offer a more compelling and recognisable portrayal.

The timing of the reveal adds further significance, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Diana’s Panorama television interview — a moment that shook the monarchy and cemented her public image as a candid and resilient figure.

Diana holds a particular emotional connection to Paris, the city where she lost her life in a car crash in August 1997. Her addition to the museum extends Grevin’s tradition of showcasing world leaders, cultural icons, and members of the British royal family.

The museum, which dates back to the 19th century, continues to update its exhibits to match public interest and cultural relevance. With an annual footfall of around 700,000 visitors, officials expect Diana’s likeness to become a major attraction and one of the museum’s most talked-about additions.
