Guwahati/ New Delhi: The Delhi Government has announced that there will be a public holiday for Chhath Pooja on Monday, October 27.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta in a press release issued yesterday evening stated, “The holiday is being observed on Monday because the third day of this four-day festival is the most important. On this day, devotees offer prayers to the setting Sun God at riversides or ponds at sunset. Preparations begin early in the morning; with families busy performing various rituals. Considering this, the government has declared October 27, a public holiday”.
Extending her greetings to devotees, CM Rekha Gupta said that Chhath is a festival dedicated to nature, where people worship the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. The festival is also a symbol of faith, devotion, and cleanliness, conveying a message of environmental protection through the worship of nature, water, and the Sun.
“The Delhi Government has ensured cleanliness, security, and all essential facilities at all Chhath Ghats, so that devotees can perform their rituals with peace of mind”, the release further stated.
Chhath Pooja is widely celebrated across the country especially in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
The Chhath Pooja is a significant Hindu Festival dedicated to worshipping Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. It is a four-day celebration that honors the sun’s life-giving energy and seeks blessings for health, prosperity and well- being. This year, the Chhath Pooja falls from October 25 to October 28.
