Rabindranath Tagore University Holds 3rd Convocation at Hojai

Hojai: Rabindranath Tagore University (RTU), Hojai, marked a significant academic milestone by holding its 3rd Convocation Ceremony with solemnity and cultural grace at the open-air stage of the Botanical Garden, Srimanta Sankardev Campus, on Wednesday. A total of 338 students were awarded degrees, including 76 postgraduates from Arts and Science streams and 262 undergraduates from Arts, Science and Commerce. Three meritorious students received Gold Medals for academic excellence—Barsharani Darphang (MA Assamese) in Arts, Swati Dey (MSc Chemistry) in Natural Sciences, and Nazia Sultana (MSc Zoology), who was also conferred the prestigious Gauri Priya Kataki Gold Medal.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury described the convocation as a celebration of knowledge, character and social responsibility. He highlighted RTU’s growth since its establishment under the Assam Act of 2017 and reiterated its commitment to quality education rooted in the philosophy of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. He also outlined recent academic expansions, new programmes and infrastructure development plans. Delivering the special address, former Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury emphasised creativity, empathy and interdisciplinary learning in the age of rapid technological change.

In his convocation address, Chancellor and Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold ethical values, humility and a spirit of service. He praised RTU’s progress and expressed confidence in its national and global aspirations. A highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the Lifetime Achievement Award on renowned tabla artist Paban Bordoloi. The event drew wide appreciation for its open-air setting, blending academic dignity with nature.
